good morning, everyone. it is interesting how a sad day can be come joyous so quickly. all of us adults knew that Peyton was close to accepting Jesus as Savior. She was concerned for a special person in her lifem, and wanted to pray for him. We talked about Jesus hearing the prayers of a saved person, and she said, I'm ready. I have to pray for him. I know I have sinned and want Jesus to forgive me. We prayed the sinners prayer, then she jumped up and down like Peyton always does when she is thrilled and excited, and wanted to call her dad, her Poppa, her Grandad Steve and Nana. Also she called her Aunts Jamie and Brittany. This new creature in Christ and a brand new baby, Mia in the family will certainly show that our great God is watching out for us and knows what we need. I praise God for His many blessings and the bond that the Thornsbroughs and Reeses have, and we certainly need each other now. I continue to be amazed at the divine strength that has been given to my girl. She has so many friends and relatives that are praying for the situation. Thanks to all of you. GRAMMY

Life Through the Spirit

Future Glory

More Than Conquerors

It is All about Him..so therefore, not about me!

My friend Megan loaned me the book, "Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free." I started this book last night and have been very excited about what I am reading. I decided to read through it quickly, and then go back and use the chapters and their accompanying scripture during my devotions. The book states that we become in bondage to sin and that all sin can be linked back to a lie that we believed. We first listen to a lie, dwell on a lie, believe the lie, and then act on the lie. The book outlines 40 lies that woman, christian women, commonly believe. The book uses the Truth, as outlined in God's word, to move us from bondage to freedom. I quickly read over the lies we believe about God. And yes, I was guilty of several of them that I quickly recognized. I then skipped to the back to read about the truth. Twenty two of the truths are highlighted in the book. Numbers 18 and 19 stuck out to me in a flash. They were Personal holiness is more important than termporal happiness and God is more concerned about changing me and glorifying Himself than about solving my problems. Another Truth that I was instantly convicted with was number 22. It states that It's not about me; it's all about Him. The following verse spoke to me as did this phrase from Nancy Leigh DeMoss's book: "Before we can respond in a godly way to the circumstances of life, we must first settle this basic issue:What is my purpose in life? If our goal in life is to be happy or accepted or loved, then anything that threatens our well-being will be an enemy-an obstacle to fulfilling out objective. On the other hand, once we agree with God that we exist for His pleasure and His glory, we can accept whatever comes into our lives as part of His sovereign will and purpose."

One little boy..

Surely a woman who raised twins can handle one toddler boy. This is Isaiah. I am babysitting today. Don't tell his mom, but before she was out of the driveway, I was fishing a small toy out of his mouth! After that, all the doors have been kept closed and the older three kids have run around having a good time. Poor Isaiah wants to join in, but he can't be trusted not to ingest all the toys "not appropriate for kids under 3." For anyone wondering how they determined what was appropriate or not, they probably called Steph to ask her if Isaiah had ever eaten one or attempted to! He is a very sweet baby, He obediently opened his mouth wide when I asked him to. Oh, we are now off to take the girls to PE and then Elijah and Isaiah and I are going to brave Walmart!

Desires of my Heart

Most days I ask God for strenght and help in my life. It seems sometimes, even when life is hopeless, and I have dwelled on my troubles, that God will say, " I told you yesterday with these verses, but since you asked, here is another passage to assure you." This is how I feel this morning. I asked God, and then I went to my blog to see the verses for the day. Psalm 37:4 immediately struck me, because this morning, I was begging God for the desire of my heart. So this passage reminds me the find my delight in the Lord, and trust him and commit my ways to Him.

Psalm 27

This morning in my devotions I was reminded from going back over an old devotion book that God is not surprised by any of our emotions or feelings. I again read Lamentations 3, which has been an ongoing source of comfort and strenght for me. So I decided to talk to the Lord about all I was feeling upon awakening this morning. Sometimes, even when circumstances are better, my own thoughts can defeat me. I didn't even ask God to change my thinking, I just told Him how I was feeling. So when I opened my blog this morning, I found Psalm 27:14 as my verse of the day. I was encouraged by it, so I read the whole Psalm. I am posting it here, very thankful for God's faithfulness, and how me meets my needs.
Psalm 27
Of David. 1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, [
a] when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.
4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

Friendship

Today, my grandmother, Helen, lost her best friend . She was a few weeks shy of 90 years old, and she was a great lady. I have many happy memories of her and her husband when I was a child. My grandmother, who is also getting very close to 90, has had two long marriages. I am not sure how long she was married each time, but her best friend, whose name was also Helen , was there through both marriages, and lost spouses. Helen's husband passed away the same week that I graduated from high school, so she lived as a widow for the past 14 years. I was always amazed at her age,because she always looked and acted so young. She was very sharp in her mind, even the last time I saw her, about a month ago. I went to see her in the hospital, this woman who watched me grow. She was suffering, but she was concerned about the hardships she knew I was going through in my life. I had the chance to pray with her, and it was a precious moment that I am glad that I took the time for.

Helen was my grandmother's best friend for 76 years. My sister and I decided that her loss would probably as difficult for our grandmother as the losses of her husbands! When they were young wives and mothers, they lived down the road from each other. They went to the same church, and they raised their each only children like brother and sister.

Today, my mother took my grandmother to see Helen, whose son had reported that she was near death. She had been hanging on that way for several days. When my grandmother arrived, she took Helen's hand in hers. My mother reported to me that she died 5 minutes later, with my grandmother still holding her hand.

This is a story of friendship that totally gives me the shivers. I can only hope and pray that my relationships can be as full of love and devotion.

Recently, I was struck by a message I heard about friendship. It was the story of David and Jonathon in the Old Testement. First Samuel 18 tells how Jonathon, who was the son of Saul, became friends with David, and they had an "immediate bond of love" according to verse one of chapter 18. Jonathon loved and cared for David as a friend. He protected him from his own father. What a picture of love and loyalty.

Monday Night Football

We had Chad, Amanda and Olivia over to see the Bears play the Cardinals last night. Brad assured me that the Bears should win by 30 points. Olivia and Chad both showed up in Urlacher jerseys. (Olivia was adorable, wish I had a picture of her instead of the real deal.) All I can say is, that is is a good thing that Urlacher showed up for the game! Apparently the Bear's quarterback was having the worst game of his life. I try to keep my mouth shut, with my limited football knowledge, but I had one comment. "Why doesn't the Bear's offense just take a knee for three downs and then kick it so that defense can score again?" Anyway, it was a nailbitter of a game. And I have a happy husband today, since the Bears are now 6-0. It is good that a W is a W, if if they only win by 1 point!

I read this passage this morning. This is nowhere near the first time I have read it, not even the first time in the past few weeks. But I needed to be reminded of what God expects of me, and what He promises.

I am constantly amazed at how God gives me just the right verses at just the right time. Again, part of this passage was the verse of the day for my blog today. I can't say enough about how great it is to use http://Biblegateway.com. When I am fighting discouragement. Or when I am trying to give encouragement to another who is discouraged, these are great verses to use. Often, we see just verse 11, but verses 12-13 offer such great additional promises from the Lord. Not only does God have awesome plans for my future, but he will pray with me and listen to me if I call upon Him! And don't we all have something that we tend to be held captive to. God promises to bring us back from that captivity if we will seek Him. This is huge encouragement to continue to seek Him, during both times of adversity, or when storms begin to calm a bit.

Happy 40th birthday, Kelly!

When I was a little girl, my dad's two youngest sisters came to live with us. My dad's siblings (all 6 of them) and his parents are pictured below on his wedding day. I instantly had two extra big sisters. Since Kelly is only 8 years older than me ( making me far from 40), I have many memories of her growing up. Don't worry, Kel, I won't tell the knife story! I can remember getting to sleep with her, maybe on a trip or something. She had very long thick hair. I can remember that she would toss her head in her sleep, and I would get hit with all that hair. I pretended it annoyed me, but really I just liked being included, and I loved her hair. When she started her first job after high school, I can remember walking on her back and rubbing her feet. Currently, I am making sure my girls are good back walkers, and my husband is very grateful for my foot rubbing skills, especially since his last surgery! One of my few clear memories of when I was on a drug in the hospital to stop my labor was of Kelly. She came and was trying to help me eat. I am pretty sure I vomited jello all over! I am guessing she wouldn't let me eat jello in her presence to this day. Below are some old family shots that have Kelly in them. Kel, I hope you have a great 40th birthday. Thanks for all the love you have shown me, and my girls over the years. I still love you like an older sister.

A day at the farm...

We headed to Megan's house to make applesauce. This has been an annual event for the past 4 years or so. This was the warmest year yet, so the kids enjoyed playing outside. We walked around the barn lot and saw chickens, a calf, and some pigs. As well as a couple of black labs. The kids collected eggs (a few actually made it back to the house), and enjoyed petting the calf.

three generations farming

It was a beautiful day today, from start to finish. I headed up to the farm late this afternoon and dropped the kids off with their Nana. I headed to the field and rode to the elevator with Brad in the dump truck. In these pictures, three generations of Thornsbrough men finish up in this field for the night. The night sky was really something. I want to praise God for his creation in the sky, and in what the ground is capable of producing over the hot summer. It is also an honor to be part of this family that works together. I have been coming up to the farm to visit during harvest for the past 14 seasons, and I count it a priviledge.

Apple picking..

We had such a fun day! Tommorrow is our yearly applesauce making day, and this year we decided to gather apples ourselves. Since Grammy is retired, she decided to go along for the picking. Thanks to my friend Linda from work, we were able to get the apples from her yard. Not pictured is Isaiah, who was snoozing in the shade in the car. What a beautiful warm fall day we had.

Baby Shower

Congratulations Brock and Amie! At long last, my brother and sister-in-law are going to welcome a new addition in a few weeks. Yesterday was a successful baby shower to welcome Mia Thornsbrough.

Nathan, who doesn't know that very soon, he won't be "the baby" any longer! What a cutie! At least he will still be the only boy.
